Graduate Resident Fellow

Spencer is a 5th year PhD student in the Computer Science department. His research is theoretical (read: more math than programming) and focuses on lattice-based cryptography. He grew up in Bellingham, Washington, where he was homeschooled along with his two younger sisters. Before Cornell, he earned bachelors’ degrees in computer science and physics at the University of Washington, and worked internships in quantum computing and quantitative finance.

Outside of research, Spencer plays for the Buds, Cornell’s premier men’s ultimate frisbee team. On nights with no frisbee practice, he’ll often be found playing basketball at Noyes, or out swing dancing. He’s also an avid reader, an aspiring blogger, a novice meditator, and a student of “Convict Conditioning”.
