Graduate Resident Fellow

Danielle is a 2nd year PhD student in the Government department studying International Relations. She researches power politics and memory as political leverage and discourse; migration, xenophobia, and belonging; and interventions that affect states’ compliance with international human rights law. Travel, global citizenship, and storytelling for social change are a huge part of her life as she is a first-generation American born in Washington, DC, to Nigerian parents and grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her love of diplomacy, international politics, and experiences as a “third-culture-kid” drove her research as an undergrad at the University of Pittsburgh, where she conducted a comparative ethnographic study on the expressions of xenophobia and unbelonging towards African immigrants in South Africa and France. Outside of research, Danielle is a former poet laureate and actress, loves exploring new cities, and teaches public speaking and the importance of global citizenship to youth!
